What is the difference between LCD and Plasma Flat Screen TVs?
Both LCD and Plasma TV’s are great formats with high definition. However the two technologies differ and depending on your viewing habits, one technology can be more beneficial to your home. Typically, flat panel Plasma TVs are less expensive and can be a better value than LCD in large screen formats.
LCD TVs use liquid crystal displays, which are backlit. They absorb ambient light better resulting in less glare on the screen. Because of the technology, LCD TVs do not have any burn in issues. Thus, gamers often prefer LCD due to the fact that they often have the same image on the screen paused or static for hours.
Plasma TVs use electrically charged gas, like neon lights. Several years ago, there were problems with burn in and that Plasmas ran hot and burned too much electricity. However, most of these problems have been corrected with today’s Plasmas and they are now about half the price of previous models. In fact, Plasma TVs offer more natural color, better resolution and smoother motion replication especially when viewing live sporting events.
