What is the difference between buying a TV and a home theater system?
As our Executive VP Steve Caldero likes to say, “Video without superior audio is just surveillance.” Sound is so important to directors like Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, that Lucas himself founded THX Ltd. In fact, Star Wars was one of the first films to utilize surround sound.
Home theater accentuates the sound and thus the feel of it being live. Even the best TV you can buy cannot give you the presence of things being around you like surround sound can. Most big screen TVs come from the manufacturer with very little or no sound upgrades. This is important to know when you visit our stores as the TV you buy has often been enhanced with a better sound system than the TV sound system that comes with the television. If you don’t ask or understand this, you will be disappointed when you don’t experience the same high performance once your set is in your home.
However, home theater systems don’t have to be pricey in order to enhance your viewing experience. A system can start at just under $1,000, including speakers, receiver, subwoofer, iPod dock, AM/FM stereo, Blu-Ray DVD player. Adding a 50” Plasma to the equation means you can get a home theater system including the TV for under $2500.
